Will We Be Bothered To Think?

_42921213_webtwohypenielsen203 Wonderful thing, this web 2.0 thing. Access to all that information, ideas and creativity flowing across the fibre optics, borders are coming down, opportunities for new thinking and ideas are limitless.

Or maybe it will all ground to a halt. Maybe because so much thinking and ideas are being pumped out like bilge every day the true nuggets will be lost? Or maybe we just won't have to try as hard to think big. We can just use some tags and technorati to find the big ideas  buried in the bilge, and save ourselves the effort?

I couldn't help but notice this week, that there seemed to be a remarkable piece of similarity. David Belman of Three Spot, made what sounded like an excellent speech about the deficiencies of Web 2.0 design. John Bell posted on it earlier, so he can tell you more. Sounded great and extremely insightful. There seemed to be plenty of comment knocking about on it too - Belman obviously struck a chord, and brought something original to a Web 2.0 conference.

Two days later I find BBC News reporting on a speech by "web usability guru" Jakob Nielsen. "Hype about Web 2.0 is making web firms negelect the basics of good design, web usability guru Jakob Nielsen has said."

I am not suggesting, accusing or implying anyone, most of all, Mr Nielsen of plagiarism. The day BBC News calls me a guru of anything will be the day I'm fit to lace his boots. Maybe him and Belman are mates. Maybe it's just a huge meeting of big minds.

I'm a big fan of this transparency though.
